Full Review

The Grovemade Wool Felt Desk Pad is one of those accessories that doesn’t reveal its quality in photos. You have to put your hands on it. The wool is dense, the edges are cleanly cut, and the cork backing actually grips the desk instead of sliding around like cheaper felt mats.

Material and Build

This is real 100% wool felt — not the polyester blend most “felt” desk pads use. It’s about 5mm thick, with a slightly springy give underhand that makes long typing sessions more comfortable. The natural fiber gives it a warmth that synthetic mats just can’t replicate, and it dampens sound in a way you notice the first time you set a mug down.

The cork backing is bonded cleanly to the wool with no glue bleeding through the edges. After months of use it doesn’t curl or peel, which is more than I can say for most mats in this price range.

As a Mouse Pad

The surface tracks well with both optical and laser mice. It’s not as fast as a hard plastic pad, but the consistency is excellent and there’s enough texture for precise control without feeling rough. Gamers will want something else — for productivity work, it’s ideal.

Living With It

The honest downside: wool pills. For the first two or three weeks you’ll see small fibers gather where your wrists rest and where the mouse travels. A quick swipe with a lint roller or fabric shaver handles it, and after the break-in period the pilling stops almost entirely. Liquids are also a real concern. A coffee splash will soak in before you can grab a napkin, and the stain may not come out.

Who Should Buy This

Buy this if you want a desk pad that feels like a piece of furniture rather than office gear, and you prefer natural materials over PU leather or synthetic felt. It pairs especially well with wood desks and warm-toned setups. If you frequently eat or drink at your desk, or you want a maintenance-free surface, the Orbitkey or a PU leather alternative will serve you better.
